Why patients from Bangladesh travel to India for heart surgery

Many families weigh cost, wait times and hospital choice before deciding where to have cardiac surgery. India's accredited hospital network is a common option for patients from Bangladesh because of its combination of specialist cardiac teams, modern facilities, and more accessible scheduling than some home-country options — alongside a well-established medical visa process between the two countries.

This guide walks through what the process actually looks like, start to finish, so you know what to expect before you begin.

Step 1: Share your reports for a free review

Everything starts with your existing medical reports — ECG, echocardiogram, angiography, or any prior consultation notes you already have. Elixir's coordination team reviews these with partner hospital specialists and comes back with hospital and doctor options along with an indicative cost estimate, typically within 48 hours. There is no obligation at this stage.

Step 2: Compare hospital and doctor options

You receive a small number of relevant options rather than an overwhelming list — matched to your specific case, with accreditation, specialty focus, and an indicative cost range for each. A second opinion from an independent specialist is also available if you want one before deciding.

Step 3: Medical visa and travel

Once you choose a hospital, Elixir prepares the invitation letter your hospital issues, which is required for the Indian medical visa application. The coordination team also helps plan arrival logistics, including airport pickup and accommodation near the hospital during your stay.

Step 4: Treatment and hospital stay

Cardiac procedures typically involve a hospital stay followed by a short recovery period before discharge, with the exact duration depending on the specific procedure and your treating doctor's assessment. Costs are confirmed by the hospital only after your reports and any in-person evaluation are complete — the initial estimate is indicative, not a fixed quote.

Step 5: Discharge, recovery and follow-up

Before you travel home, your treating team provides discharge instructions and a recovery plan. Elixir's coordinator stays available for follow-up questions and, where relevant, helps arrange continuity of any prescribed medicines after you return home.
